The diminutive singer walked up the Met steps in a burgundy tail coat, white collars and cuffs and a matching burgundy leotard underneath, a head-to-toe custom look by Pharrell at Louis Vuitton. After her red carpet run was over, Carpenter met up with Vogue’s correspondent LaLa Anthony to discuss the look, saying that it had always been her dream to be dressed by Pharrell. Along with that info though, Carpenter also revealed that the LV creative director didn’t want her outfit to have a bottom half due to her famously short stature. “You’re quite short, no pants for you,” Carpenter remembered the designer saying to her. Carpenter’s sense of humour is known to be quite dry, so maybe she’s riffing a little on what he actually said – but the advice seems to have paid off. Carpenter’s look is up there with one of the most eye-catching of the night, and also suits her perfectly (pardon the pun) as it seems to be keeping with the Old Hollywood style she’s perfected during her Short n’ Sweet era. And always ahead of the curve, it seems that Pharrell banning trousers actually kept Carpenter bang on trend. Also opting for the pantless look was Doja Cat in custom Marc Jacobs, and Blackpink singer Lisa in another Louis Vuitton look. As previously mentioned, this is Carpenter’s second Met Gala. In 2024, the singer rocked up in an Oscar de la Renta mermaid gown with a huge baby blue train, and this year’s look is practically the polar opposite of that. Previous to arriving on the carpet though, the singer did have us fooled, leaving her hotel in a huge fur coat that shielded her ringmaster-coded ensemble. Elsewhere, outside of the confines of the Met Gala, Carpenter will be coming back to the UK at the beginning of July to headline BST festival in Hyde Park, before heading back to the US at the end of the year for her North American leg.
