Some struggled to get their heads around Cortisa’s ‘postmodern’ approach to mixing, or the existence of a trans rapper altogether, but the freestyle also attracted a magnitude greater number of fans, including Charli xcx, Doechii, and, most recently, Miuccia Prada. Joining the likes of Sarah Paulson, Nettspend, Towa Bird and Laura Harrier, Cortisa was chosen to walk Miu Miu’s AW25 collection earlier this week, appearing in a floating shift and tailored grey coat. The collection marked the rapper’s first experience on the runway, as well as an astronomical rise from first appearing on everyone’s screens just three months ago. Below, Cortisa walks Dazed through the experience of appearing in her first fashion show. Hey Cortisa! It seems like it’s been a pretty wild few months for you since we last spoke in December. What’s been happening? Cortisa Star: A lot! Studio sessions, high-budget photoshoots and video shoots… and chopping wood in the Appalachian mountains with my father. How did you feel when you got the call from Miu Miu? Cortisa Star: The world stopped for a second. I always wanted to be on the runway, so when I got confirmed I was gagged! Fashion is an extremely important part of my life. Expression of the self is so needed, and I like to be able to show that in multiple aspects of my life – Cortisa Star Have you always been interested in fashion? Cortisa Star: Yes! My grandparents always took fashion seriously and I always loved the maximalist aspect of fashion. It’s an extremely important part of my life. Expression of the self is so needed, and I like to be able to show that in multiple aspects of my life! Did you chat to Sarah Paulson? Or Miuccia Prada? Cortisa Star: I did! Mrs. Paulson was sweet when we chatted, and I said hello to Miuccia Prada but she is a very busy lady! If you could walk the runway to any song, what would it be? Cortisa Star: “Save Me” by Chief Keef… Boots. There are several musicians who have gone on to become fashion designers, would you ever consider it? Cortisa Star: Of course! But I need a lot of more time before that can become a reality. Had you been to Paris before? Were there any highlights from the trip? Cortisa Star: This was my first time out of America!! The show and the Party were my highlights for sure! Who would you cast in your fashion show if you were the designer? Cortisa Star: Castings are secret darling 💋 Check the gallery above for exclusive behind the scenes photos from Cortisa’s appearance at Miu Miu AW25. Escape the algorithm!
