Still, its latest announcement may take the cake – this week, the brand announced a Spring 2025 collection with British musician, composer and DJ Aphex Twin (born Richard D. James). The collection, available March 6, features original album artwork as well as music video artwork by Chris Cunningham, including fan favourites like the cover art for Aphex Twin’s 1996 fourth studio album, Richard D. James Album, and a still from the Come to Daddy music video in 1997. The Supreme x Aphex Twin collection is extensive: there’s a gore-tex hooded jacket, Alpha Industries cargo jacket, sweater, shirt, thermal, football jersey, hooded sweatshirt, Alpha Industries cargo pant, short, two t-shirts, 6-panel, Mechanix work gloves, mantis coin knife and four skateboards – three sold as a set and one sold individually. Each piece pays homage to James’s experimental approach to music. “It is all about sound, but people forget that,” he said in a press release from Supreme. “They think, ‘Oh, I want to hear a nice tune.’ But what you’re actually saying is you want to hear the combination of frequencies that make you feel a certain way. And more excitingly, it's about finding out the new ones”. Considering that Aphex Twin is known for drawing together the broadest, weirdest strokes of acid, house, jungle, drum n’ bass and classical instrumentation, it should be no surprise that his first Supreme collaboration is filled with blurry photography on pink knits, grey camo prints mixed with stills and scribbled writing on the back of green hoodies. James’s vast output ranges from placid ambient to frenzied techno and far beyond – and now his repertoire includes a (no doubt soon to be sold out) collaboration. Available on Friday, March 6 (March 8 in Asia), this one will be worth copping before other Aphex Twin and Supreme-heads stock up. Escape the algorithm!
