Are you struggling to sort your Christmas presents, spending far too much time down the pub in the spirit of trying to invoke some festive cheer and too stressed with getting work wrapped up ahead of the holidays to even think about hauling your arse down Oxford Street or its regional equivalent? Panic no more, because the dream team behind cuckoo fashion zine Red3licte have once more dug a fork into their “salade of ideas” to come up with the perfect solution for just about everyone – from blessed newborn nephew, to pissed-up auntie, to that weird cousin you thankfully only have to see this gorgeous time of year. In typical batshit style, the Red3licte gang has turned a hand to footwear ahead of the festive season, and Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo et al should surely be shaking in their shiny little boots. Following on from their spliced-and-diced debut clothing collection, which went on sale via eBay auction back in 2022, a bunch of sensible Birkenstocks are transformed with the help of artist Raine Trainor into certified objets d’art as part of new offering Diaper Fomo. Styles up for grabs include smiling puppies whose tongues loll out of their mouths and curly-haired scarlet Beelzebubs who appear as if eating your foot when you carefully slide one into them. Once again, the edit will be sold off on eBay, with all proceeds this time going to a great cause in the form of Medical Aid Palestine. Visionary shoes such as these aren’t for everyone, though, not to mention that there are only a handful of pairs to go around anyway. For the more conservative fashion lover, there’s still a way to get in on the action without going the whole hog – or, as you might put it, dip a toe – in the form of a kaleidoscopic calendar designed to see you through the year of our lord 2025. Across 12 pages, the Diaper Fomo collection comes to life in all manner of bizarro situations, with shoes blown up to mega proportions and worn in an even more avant-garde way like on the hands like gloves. Because why not?! As co-founder Jack Sunnucks puts it: “Feet aren’t the hands of the legs, they’re the brains of below the waist. In reflexology, pressure is applied to your reflex points, inducing a healing response in your organs. In Red3lictology, creativity from the upper brain is applied to clothing, in this case the shoe – the middle brain is the gut, in which creativity is fermented. Raine Trainor has recreated these Birks, channeling the devil, dog and diva within towards the feet. Red3licte recommends putting one foot in front of the other in the coming year. It’s all you can do.” The shoes are currently on auction on eBay and you can place your bids here. The Red3licte calendar is exclusive to Climax book store in New York. And if you want neither shoe nor its accompanying calendar, you can donate to Medical Aid Palestine here. Revisit the first issue of Red3licte in the gallery below.
