When you think of Milan Fashion Week, it probably conjures-up images of Italy’s signature classic style, bombshell models, and sexy silhouettes. This season, however, next-gen labels like Cormio, Karoline Vitto, and Sunnei turned Italian fashion on its head – trading in typical MFW staples for rebellious, forward-thinking designs. Keeping up with the schedule’s rejection of typical Italian wear, the fashion crowd showed up to Milan serving heavy doses of Y2K high-glamour – all appropriately captured in cloudy, digital-camera-style imagery by street style photographer Jamie-maree Shipton. With clicking silver and purple sequin kitten heels, pleated pink mini skirts, ruched metallic party dresses, and wrap-around Dior sunnies, showgoers ended up appearing more like celebrities on a noughties red carpet than guests at Milan Fashion Week’s front rows.
With rhinestone-encrusted butterfly earrings, sparkling star-printed tube tops, and diamante leggings – plus a number of cute, purse-sized dogs – all featuring heavily, looks paid homage to the early 00s most legendary style icons, from Paris Hilton to Beyoncé, Christina Aguilera, and Britney Spears. Providing a modern-take on the noughties style, however, looks were topped off with choppy-layered haircuts and slicked-back buns, shimmering graphic eye-makeup, tied-on calla lilies, and wired Apple headphones hanging from pink shoulder bags.
