Donnie Darko’s nightmarish nemesis, FrankDirector Richard Kelly has overseen a new collab that brings the cult film’s most iconic scenes to lifeShareLink copied ✔️October 10, 2023October 10, 2023TextDazed Digital Bella Hadid, Michèle Lamy, Paris Hilton, and Frank, Donnie Darko’s nightmare nemesis with a penchant for turning up in a demonic bunny costume. No, we’re not floating our dream blunt rotation (haha, unless…). So what unites this unlikely cast of characters? Today, Frank became the latest to star in his very own Heaven campaign. In 2021, Donnie Darko’s writer and director Richard Kelly teased plans to “blow everybody’s minds” with an expansion of the cult film’s universe, and now this has materialised as an official collaboration with the Marc Jacobs brand. Think: hoodies, t-shirts, and accessories decorated with imagery from the film, designed to revive your deepest teenage angst. In an announcement shared via Instagram, the label says that the campaign was shot by photographer Zamar Velez at the sci-fi film’s original shooting locations across Los Angeles, including homages to the iconic exchange at the Aero movie theatre. Kelly himself also returns to oversee the art direction. Premiered in 2001, the film starred Jake Gyllenhaal in a breakthrough role as the titular troubled teenager whose bedroom is crushed by a time-travelling jet engine, but it’s arguably Frank’s image that has lingered in the audience’s imagination in the past two decades. Appearing like a terrifying sleep paralysis demon who’s just stumbled across a beginner’s guide to nihilism, he’s even been hailed as the ultimate outsider symbol.
