As the crescent moon rises on Eid-al-Fitr, a month-long period of quiet contemplation swells into celebration. Marked by an abundance of food, gift-giving, and goodwill, Muslims come together to break fast and acknowledge the spiritual accomplishments of Ramadan, often dressed in their finest outfits. But fashion goes beyond mere indulgence and the act of getting dressed harbours a unique religious resonance. Understood as an expression of Sunnah, looking good on Eid is something of a moral duty, honouring the traditions laid out by the prophet Muhammad. That can mean different things for different people (Louis Vuitton bags, Moroccan kaftans, Versace sunglasses, Abayas) and in the videos below, seven young Muslims from across the globe detail how they will be celebrating Eid through their wardrobes.

“You just want to eat the most incredible food and you just want to look on point, you just want to look your best!,” designer Zaynab Lunat says. Elsewhere, stylist Naailah Khalifa, journalist Shayma Bakht, and Dazed’s very own Habi Diallo showcase the wide-ranging practices that collect within Islam: from henna hands, to saris, and hosting barbecues in Motel Rocks vests. “But once I start going into a food coma I’ll put something a lot more comfortable on,” as Maz Ullah, the creator of @spacemuslimwellness on Instagram, says. “Eid is so special to me, to be around friends, to be around family. It’s a time to support the less fortunate and to be grateful for everything you have.” Scroll through the clips below to see more from all the festive fashion taking place right now. Eid Mubarak!
