In interviews, Lucas Ossendrijver will often cite a 1920s jacket he found at a flea market as the catalyst for his interest in fashion. It seemed to kindle a fascination with pragmatic design and everyday elegance, which the designer is beginning to apply to Theory after 14 years at the helm of Lanvin. His most recent SS23 collection was inspired by the ambient chaos of New York City with fluid fabrics, utilitarian details, and kinetic prints. In Dazed’s latest issue, silk columns are paired with gabardine minis, technical half-zips are worn over pinstripe shirts, and skirts are fastened at the hip like a sarong wrap, as shot by Ana Theine and styled by Marine Gabaut. “I’ve always been inspired by things that are not 100 per cent clear – things that exist in the space ‘in between’ formal and casual, for example. The way people live now, clothes have to be functional and adapt to your lifestyle,” he told us last year.
