Tommy Hilfiger’s red, white, and blue logo has been an omnipresent part of American culture for as long as most of us can remember, spanning preppy wardrobes and hip hop archives alike, much-loved by everyone from Aaliyah, to Zendaya, to Wu-Tang Clan. Not too surprising, then, that there’s a wealth of options when you dive into the archives to revisit the brand’s classic designs.

Luckily, Tommy has done all of the heavy lifting for us. The brand’s new capsule collection is specifically aimed at bringing new life to pre-90s prep icons (think: varsity jackets and slouchy, stars-and-stripes rugby jerseys) and adding an up-to-date twist with the help of a diverse cast of young creatives. Among these creatives are Chandra (AKA @lame.cobainn) and Babac (@b.saintcloud), a pair of models and on-the-rise social media stars who have recently taken Tommy Hilfiger’s aforementioned rugby shirt for a roadtest.

What does such a roadtest entail, you ask? Well, through the power of TikTok, Chandra takes followers through a day in her life, taking the Tube, getting food, snapping selfies, and vintage shopping to showcase the versatility of the reinvented wardrobe staple. Babac, meanwhile, puts the rugby shirt through its paces as he shows off his parkour skills, hangs out in the park, and takes time out for a bit of dogsitting.

It isn’t only Tommy’s extended family that has received an update for 2023, though. The brand’s latest collection also sees its classics reworked with a strong focus on sustainability, keeping one eye on the future through the use of recycled dyes and innovative fibres like Circulose® (a material made out of recycled textile waste that has been blended with wood fibre, reducing the consumption of virgin resources and incorporating discarded cotton into a circular recycling system, rather than sending it to landfills). The rugby shirt itself is crafted from a recycled and organic cotton blend.
