...and more news you missed
Harry Fisher spent four years as a buyer for the cult Soho boutique Machine-A before taking the plunge and striking out alone. htown – which opened its first location in the eye of the 2020 pandemic – stocks some of the most exciting menswear designers working in fashion and has just unveiled a second outpost. It’s a trying time for newgen fashion businesses but Fisher’s approach to selling clothes (ie, understanding that it’s not just about selling clothes) has managed to set htown apart from most other destinations.
The idea for the new space, which is situated beneath 100 Shoreditch, is to foster real-life connections through workshops and events with young creatives – inviting locals to actively engage with the work of Martine Rose, Y/Project, JW Anderson, Saul Nash, and Ahluwalia. Fisher and co will also make monthly donations to the Refuge and Spitalfields Crypt Trust charities for the entire length of their stay. Head down to 100 Shoreditch this weekend to see the first of htown’s installations, courtesy of artist Shaquille-Aaron Keith.
In other news this week, Dazed launched its Spring 2023 Issue, featuring Ice Spice, Just Stop Oil, Zaya Wade, and Clint of Corteiz fame. Elsewhere, Donatella Versace and Lady Gaga produced the best look at the Oscars – which needs to bring back its old fashion show format – while Law Roach announced his sudden retirement and M3GAN starred in the new Heaven campaign.
