...and other fashion news you missed
With the drop of its new crossbody bag – the Metropolis Remix – Furla is taking arms against the gender gap in music. With the knowledge that only 20 per cent of musicians are female, the Italian label is set on fostering the next generation of female artists. Pledging to match the total number of sales made from the bag – and there are only 2022 in production – Furla will funnel funds into She Is The Music, a non-profit founded by Alicia Keys in 2018. Launching this week, the bow-shaped, calfskin leather bag features in an accompanying campaign video where DJ Kim Turnbull talks candidly about her experience of gender inequality within the music industry. Watch the film here.
In other fashion news, the SS23 edition of London Fashion Week came to a close, passing the baton onto Milan, which kicked off earlier this week. In and amongst all the shows, Sinead O’Dwyer blew open the borders of luxury fashion by casting two models in wheelchairs for her runway debut, while Prada reintroduced the much-maligned skinny-fit trouser, and Alessandro Michele called for Gemini rights. THAT’S FERRAGAMO, AND FERRAGAMO ONLY, TO YOU
T-1 day until Maximilian’s debut at Salvatore Ferragamo and the designer has already made a bold assertion of his direction. Tapping Peter Saville, the designer has rebranded the Italian heritage label as simply “Ferragamo” – replacing the Lucida Handwriting font for a chic, Greco-Roman alternative.
HARRIS REED GARNERS MORE ATTENTION
Harris Reed has been appointed the creative director of Nina Ricci, following in the footsteps of Botter, who only recently left the brand to focus on their own label. “To be a 6’4” (without heels), red-headed, long haired fluid designer (who everyone thinks is a fabulous woman) who is unapologetically myself entering a brand I could have only ever dreamed of in Paris just leaves me full of excitement and love,” the designer said alongside a crying video on Instagram.
PALOMA GETS FARFETCHED
Paloma Elsesser, the SUPERMODEL, stars in Farfetch’s new brand campaign alongside Bakar, Leighton Meester, and Omar Apollo. An accompanying video follows Elsesser getting ready in a mahogany-walled room, full of languid, sensual shots directed by Fenn O’Meally. “This job was so special,” she said. “It was a project where we really got to play and I’ve always felt that space to play should be maintained throughout the creative process. I think the freedom to be intuitive and curious is so important, whatever the discipline, from filmmaking to styling.” See more of the campaign here.
RAF SIMONS IS GAY
Having just brought back the skinny-fit trouser at Prada, Raf Simons today launched his AW22 campaign at his own eponymous label. Shot by Willy Vanderperre and styled by Oliver Rizzo, the imagery hones in on two models pashing in vinyl jackets and hirsute military hats. SADIE SINKS INTO STELLA MCCARTNEY
Sadie Sink was this week hailed as the new face of Stella McCartney. Starring in the brand’s AW22 campaign, the actor pays homage to the American artist Frank Stella, posing in a ranch, a gallery, and a working horse farm in Montauk. “This story was quintessentially Stella and brought together so many elements and people who I love. It almost felt like a family on the shoot, and that playfulness and energy translates into the iconic visuals Theo captured of Sadie wearing our Frank Stella pieces. She truly feels like the face of the next generation and I could not be prouder to work with her,” McCartney said.
