JW Anderson drops the sunglasses of the summer and you can dress just like Lady Gaga (for a charitable cause)
Another week jam-packed full of goings on in the busy world of fashion. Over in Antwerp, fashion museum MoMu is gearing up for its grand reopening, after being closed since 2018 for major refurbishment. To celebrate, chic billboards by Raf Simons, Marine Serre, Walter Van Beirendonck, and more are set to crop up all over the city.
Back in the UK, a new report by Fashion Roundtable has revealed that (shock horror!) discrimination still exists in the fashion industry with 68 per cent of respondents having experienced or witnessed it. Similarly, former model Halima Aden has opened up about how “exploitative” fashion is and the events that made her leave in a new interview with Tommy Hilfiger. Finally, for everyone who has been keeping up to date with the ongoing Versace vs Fashion Nova legal battle, it’s now come to an end right before the trial was due to start.

Vetements has got a whole new look
In what might be the chicest game of Countdown ever, Vetements has opted for all consonants and launched new line Vtmnts. Unveiled on its new Instagram account @vetements_secret_project, the brand dropped an 100 look-strong SS22 collection with they/them gender identity tees and a Back to the Future hoodie. The brand’s CEO Guram Gvasalia has also announced the launch of a new platform, Gvasalia Family Foundation, which will provide mentoring and financial support.
Schiaparelli and Lady Gaga are feeling charitable
Back in January (AKA 100 years ago) at Joe Biden’s Inauguration, Lady Gaga served us a rather demure (by her standards anyway) gown accessorised with a giant dove-shaped brooch courtesy of Schiaparelli. The iconic brooch is now available for sale with all proceeds going to the Born This Way Foundation – a charitable organisation supporting mental health work with teens.

Victoria’s Secret wants to sashay back to the runway
After 20 years of Angels and bonanzas that featured Lady Gaga, Rihanna, Justin Bieber, and more, Victoria’s Secretcancelled its annual show back in 2019. But, it’s promising to come back in a “culturally relevant” way soon. Whatever that means!
Jonathan Anderson creates eccentric eyewear for Persol
A new collaboration between JW Anderson and eyewear brand Persol drops just in time for your hot girl/gay/they summer. With bold colours inspired by the bright lights of the Balearics, the creations have all the quirks for the Irish designer, looking as if two different designs have been smashed together. Frankenshades, if you will. What’s better is that they’re made from recycled acetate offcuts from the production chain so they’re sustainable too. Here’s to a guilt-free summer.
The British Fashion Council has a new prize
After launching in April, the British Fashion Council’s Changemakers Prize – created in partnership with Swarovski – has announced its first nominees. Across three categories (environment, people, and community & craftsmanship), the nine nominees will be whittled down to three winners on September 2 and will receive £7,500 and mentoring. Watch the IGTV for the full list of nominees.
Reformation drops its largest vintage selection yet
You might know Reformation for its gorj selection of dresses designed for the hottest of cousins attending a wedding, its commitment to sustainability while looking cute, or maybe its most recent release of shoes. But the brand at birth was all about reworking vintage dresses when it all began in 2009 at its LA studio. Now, it’s going back to its roots and pushing for more environmentally-conscious shopping with the official launch of more frequent vintage drops, kicking off with Ref’s largest collection to date.
The focus is spurred by the galling stats that say the fashion industry sends 26 billion pounds of clothing into the landfill every year, and about 90 per cent of clothing is thrown away long before the end of its useful life. Each curated, tailored drop will feature hand-picked and one-of-a-kind pieces for more people than ever to shop the coveted selections. The July drop, all about colours, jazzy prints, and crochet, features vintage from Dior, Saint Laurent, Prada, Gucci, Moschino, and more. Shop quick though and keep an eye on the next collection – the drops historically sell out in 24 hours.
