Indya Moore, Chloë Sevigny, and LoveLeo star in Saint Laurent’s new film

The Parisian label submerges us into the surreal world of its SS21 collection via its new short ‘French Water’

With a little help from auteur-director Jim Jarmusch, Saint Laurent has released a short film titled French Water, showcasing Anthony Vaccarello’s SS21 collection.

Set in the wake of a dinner party, the label’s all star guests – including Julianne Moore, Charlotte Gainsbourg, Indya Moore, Chloë Sevigny, plus TikTok star and former Dazed 100er Leo Reilly – slink through mirrored doors, wandering dreamlike beneath the vaulted ceilings of an abandoned soirée, gasping for a cool sip of l’eau. They’re on the hunt for Gainsbourg, who keeps disappearing and reappearing throughout the film’s nine-minute duration like a well-heeled spectre.

Confounded by the rogue starlets is a lone waiter (played by Reilly), who stands perched with three glasses of crystalline water, gawping at the constant flurry of guests. Turns out Gainsbourg has perhaps had one too many, and while everyone’s been trying to get her home, she’s been maniacally dancing and reading Edgar Allan Poe – which tbh makes for a very post-pandemic party.

Of course, it’s not Saint Laurent’s first cinematic rodeo. Back in December, Vaccarello sent out a Suspiria-indebted short directed by Gaspar Noe, which featured brand muse Charlotte Rampling. And before that, Noe had worked on Saint Laurent’s 2019 short Lux Æterna. So perhaps French Water could spell the beginning of further collaborations between Jarmusch and the storied French fashion house.
