Rihanna felt like ‘a clown’ in her Met Gala omelette dress

Newsflash: even Ri gets nervous when trying out a new look

Cast your mind back to 2015 and it’s highly likely you’ll recall Rihanna sweeping up the scarlet stairs of the Met Ball in a yellow extravaganza of a dress.

Going down as one of the most iconic looks in the event’s glittering history, the OTT gown was the work of Chinese designer Guo Pei, taking over 6,000 hours to make, and weighing in at 25 kilograms.

Now, Ri has opened up about what it was like to wear the dress – and though it’s hard to imagine her feeling like anything other than the goddess she is, you’ll be interested to know that even she has her reservations when experimenting with a new lewk.

Appearing in an interview with Access Hollywood to promote her new Fenty skincare line (more on that here), Rihanna explains she was actually pretty nervous about getting out of the car and stepping into the glare of the waiting paps’ cameras.

“I remember being so scared to get out of the car because I felt like… I’m doing too much!” told host Scott Evans, who, unsurprisingly, is incredulous. “I was driving past the red carpet and I was just seeing gowns, and I was like… oh my god, I’m a clown, people are gonna laugh at me, this is too much. I circled like three times, I’m not even joking, until finally I was like okay let’s go, let’s just go.”

When Evans asked her about the deluge of omelette memes that landed on social media post-gala, she laughed “Oh the frying pan with the egg? Legendary. I don’t regret it!” The lesson? Same as always. Be more Rihanna and wear the mad outfit, obvs.
