Dua Lipa, Paul Mescal, Lizzo, and more: this week’s best lockdown looks

‘What is... getting dressed?’ the rest of us cry in unison

Another week, another bunch of celebrity fashion choices to dissect… Okay fine – we’re scrolling through them on Instagram as passively and slack-jawed as you are and there will be no dissection. We’re here for the lewks and the lewks alone, let’s be real.

With Robert Pattinson’s imaginative sock and scarf festoonery and Arca’s extremely fab Charlotte Knowles ensembles now but a distant memory since time has quite clearly ceased to exist, the likes of Charii XCX, Lizzo, Dua Lipa, and, of course, Paul Mescal (or, as he’s better known, Connell from Normal People) have all been cranking things up over the course of the last few days.

But where to begin? With grande dame of fashion – and actual IRL dame – Vivienne Westwood, of course. Having trained co-conspirator Andreas Kronthaler up to become what could perhapsbe considered the ultimate Instagram husband, the iconic British designer has been digging into her own archive and turning a whole series of looks in her extremely idyllic garden, as she delivers her weekly message on the state of the world (if you've been living under a rock, things aren’t looking great tbh).

Elsewhere (presumably on Planet Chromatica), Gaga has not only blessed our ears with indelible “Rain On Me” but our eyes with a succession of all-pink ensembles: this week, she broke out a fuchsia Chromatica-emblazoned studded mask by Baja East, which, in our opinion, would set off that pink jockstrap and matching thong combo an absolute treat. Lizzo, too, incorporated a face covering into her poolside look, finishing off her string bikini with a matching floral mask and gloves, reminding us of our own responsibility to wear one in the process – though maybe with a few more clothes on if you’re off to queue outside Tesco for an hour, obvs.

Dua Lipa and Charli XCX further demonstrated their commitment to the early 00s’ aesthetic seemingly knows no bounds. While Dua went for her silk Louis Vuitton headscarf yet again (haven’t tried the look out for yourself yet? Head here), Charli busted out the ultimate Claire’s Accessories school disco score in the form of multicoloured butterfly clips, as worn with an Area dress and Y/Project shoes. Kylie Jenner, meanwhile, threw it back to 1996 in a vintage mesh Gaultier top avec snake motif.

All these coordinated looks, however, paled in comparison to a quite clearly off-the-cuff ensemble Paul Mescal threw on to pick up a couple of tinnies and a questionable bottle of cider for a trip to the park. Comprising a pair of O’Neills short shorts and a zip-up trackie top, the Normal People star and his silver chain sent Twitter into an extremely horny thirst-fuelled frenzy across the bank holiday weekend without even bothering to try.
