Supreme’s new collection is an ode to legendary musician Daniel Johnston

Kurt Cobain’s fave singer-songwriter is the inspiration behind the label’s latest offering

Following closely behind a collection inspired by seminal shoegaze band My Bloody Valentine that dropped last month, Supreme just revealed its latest capsule collection, which this time features artwork by legendary musician Daniel Johnston

As announced via an Instagram post this morning, the offering is made up of tees, work jackets, hoodies, and beanies bearing Johnston’s signature scrawly and subversive illustrations.

Known for his childlike exploration of love and life on tracks including “True Love Will Find You In The End” and “Casper The Friendly Ghost”, Johnston’s sweetly earnest lyrics and lo-fi sound found him fans in the form of Sonic Youth, Yo La Tengo, and Kurt Cobain

The Nirvana frontman called him “the greatest songwriter on earth” and was famously photographed wearing a t-shirt featuring the cover art from 1983 album Hi, How Are You. Last year, Johnston passed away aged 58.

The collection is set to land on the Supreme site on May 14 – check it out in the gallery above. We also recommend adding 2006 documentary The Devil and Daniel Johnston to your watchlist – but make sure you have some tissues to hand.
