Among those whose shows have gone down in the history books are the likes of Rei Kawakubo, Rick Owens, and Martin Margiela, as well as Raf Simons, who pretty unsurprisingly has a good few fashion-altering collections under his belt. Perhaps most notable is his AW01 offering, Riot! Riot! Riot!, which saw him sideline the slim-fit tailoring he’d previously sent down the runway after a year’s sabbatical from the fashion scene. With oversized patchwork bomber jackets layered over distressed hoodies, and classic trenches matched with wide-legged trousers all on the line-up (with looks sometimes accessorised with a cheeky cigarette), pieces from the offering were later frequently worn by Kanye West. Speaking to the counter and youth culture of the day, the collection paved the way for designers including Demna Gvasalia, whose own anti-fashion approach mirrors that of the Belgian iconoclast. The now-infamous show, staged like many of Simons’ others in an industrial, scaffolding-clad warehouse, was largely relegated to the memories of those lucky enough to attend back in 2001, with no video footage publicly available. Now, however, thanks to YouTube account YOURFASHIONARCHIVE, the entire presentation is available to watch online, meaning Raf stans can finally watch a little previously unseen show, as a treat.
