With Instagram Lives in abundance and online talks coming in so fast we are almost spoilt for choice, over the course of the last few days, a new trend has emerged: pillow dressing. Simple in its concept, the rising fashion challenge has seen a huge number of people – from influencers and children, some extremely cute pets – posing with a pillow in lieu of a dress. Using a belt to cinch in the waist, the result is a mini-dress type look, which is, of course, completely backless. Seemingly started by influencers @stylebynelli and @myforteisfashion, who posted pictures of themselves in blue and pink pillows respectively, @stylebynelli wrote in a caption, “I challenge you guys to do this look.” With over 140,000 posts on the hashtag #pillowchallenge, this is not the first time bedding has provided inspiration when it comes to fashion, however. Maison Margiela debuted a duvet coat as part of its AW90 collection, with the look going on to feature again on the runway in later presentations. Elsewhere, Viktor & Rolf presented its iconic bed dress in its AW05 offering, while Comme des Garçons also gave its take on comfy dressing for AW15.
