To coincide with the first day of London Fashion Week, the British Fashion Council has announced that it will be continuing its partnership with Adwoa as its Ambassador for Positive Fashion by launching a new mentorship scheme that aims to introduce five young people to non-design-focused careers in fashion. The scheme will see Aboah pick five winners, who will be individually mentored by some of the biggest names in the industry. The Mentoring Scheme will offer talent the chance to explore less-conventional roles in the industry, and show them how to navigate the paths to help them get there. “I wouldn’t say that a knowledge of the fashion industry is going to be one of the first things I’m looking for, I’ll be looking for those who have a fascination to see what this might hold for them, and a passion for anything. Something I find very attractive in all human beings is an obsession for anything you put your mind to, and my five mentors on this project embody that kind of obsession. They each have a passion that drives them to continuously go and think outside the box. I’m going to be looking for people who think outside the box, as well,” Aboah told Vogue. Each selected candidate will be partnered with one of five hand-picked mentors, including photographer Campbell Addy, MatchesFashion.com buying director Natalie Kingham, British Vogue fashion news editor Olivia Singer, stylist Ibrahim Kamara, and Aboah’s mum, CLM Agency founder, Camilla Lowther.
