Just over a month away from its SS20 event – due to take place from August 27-29 – the Swedish Fashion Council has announced that it will be no longer hosting Stockholm Fashion Week in its traditional format.
“Stepping away from the conventional Fashion Week model has been a difficult, but much considered decision,” says Jennie Rosén, CEO of the Swedish Fashion Council. “We need to put the past to rest and stimulate the development of a platform that is relevant for today’s fashion industry (and) focus on creating tools and platforms in order to support and prepare the industry for the future.”
Over the years, Stockholm Fashion Week has showcased the work of designers such as Per Götesson and Lazoschmidl. It has also supported a host of young designers like Central Saint Martins grad Harry Freegard via its Challenge The Fabric Award. In addition to its Fashion Innovation Centre, the intiative will continue spotlighting upcoming designers to last within the industry rather than burning out after a season or two.
For now, the SFC hasn’t revealed full details of what to expect from the new format, but will release more information later this year.
