Time for LGBTQ+ people all over the world to live their very best lives – yeah, even better than the rest of the year. Ahead of the Stonewall anniversary on June 28 – this year is 50 years since the original riots – Donatella Versace and Conchita Wurst have been announced as new ambassadors, joining the likes of Anna Wintour and Whoopi Goldberg. “Words cannot express how honoured I am to have been named an ambassador of Stonewall Inn,” Donatella tells WWD. “What happened here in 1969 was something extraordinary that caught the attention of the world on the issues of diversity, equality, basic civil rights and acceptance.” Donatella has been a longtime supporter of the LGBTQ+ community, counting Elton John and Luke Evans among her close friends over the years. Her brother Gianni was openly gay before his untimely death in 1997. In addition to the news, Versace is dropping a collection of Stonewall tees with proceeds going to support Stonewall Day and Pride Live – a global campaign to highlight the importance of remembering the riots. “I could not be more proud to add my voice to the ones of millions of other people who have the strength and courage to demand a change in the status quo,” Donatella concludes. “For a better life for everyone. For a better world.” Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday. Privacy policy Thank you.
