For AW17, this meant a portrait exhibition rather than your traditional runway show. This season saw the AW19 collection unveiled via a film created to show the evolving relationship between fashion and science. Entitled ‘A Last Supper’ the eight-minute conceptual video is self-edited and completely put together by the star of the night, the ‘Distinguished Guest’ – AKA a custom AI machine. Continuing the long-standing partnership between the brand and Radiohead’s frontman Thom Yorke, the video is accompanied by an electric mix. It shows both the IRL versions of the guests and the collection through the AI’s point of view. Pixels jumping from all sides of the screen along with repeated human actions, picked up by the AI, are shown throughout the short film. Created by creative technologist Ross Goodwin, the AI system spent the evening learning through the actions of the guests as they engaged with each other over dinner. Selected attendees were captured by cameras that generated them as point cloud data – which (if that confuses you too) means the AI collected 3D coordinates so the guests could be reinterpreted into the robotic figures featured in the video. Think pixel versions of the likes of Emma Roberts and model Carolyn Murphy. Watch the full film above.
