As the old adage goes: it’s always fashion week somewhere. With the Milan and Paris menswear season firmly in the rear view, it was the turn of Berlin Fashion Week’s SS27 edition, which continued to deliver standout shows across the schedule. On Friday night, Mexican designer Victor Barragán made his long awaited return to the catwalk after three years away, taking over the Embassy of Mexico for a sticky, sleazy SS27 collection full of leather daddies and muscle Marys. And on a slightly different note, GmbH designers Benjamin A Huseby and Serhat Işik reflected on their past decade of work with a 10th anniversary show held in the gardens of the Kronprinzenpalais, a former Prussian palace in the centre of Berlin.

Off the runway, Berlin’s dedicated showgoers were also rising to the occasion. Headpieces and hats were a go-to for those looking to grab our photographer’s attention, with pearlescent beads and sailor silhouettes framing faces outside the shows. The classic all-black uniforms were still there, but, for the most part, it felt like Berlin had outgrown this stereotype, with people embracing a wider array of colours and styles then ever before. From turquoise-faced goths and backless gowns to Berghain bouncer Sven Marquardt wearing Willy Chavarria and stack of silver rings, there was something for everyone at Berlin Fashion Week this season – which is why it continues to become a vital stop-off point in the global fashion calendar.
