Following on from the trio of designers – Mowalola, Robyn Lynch, and Stefan Cooke – who showed at Fashion East’s menswear show last month, the fashion initiative has announced the three designers who will present at its AW19 womenswear shows on February 17. Along with the likes of Dazed 100 designer Charlotte Knowles and Central Saint Martins graduate Yuhan Wang, fellow CSM grad Gareth Wrighton joins the line-up.
“Gareth came onto my radar back in 2015 when he was making collections, film and video games with endless energy,” said Fashion East founder and director Lulu Kennedy. “I loved his vision and sense of adventure as an artist working across many mediums whether solo or collectively. I’m excited to watch his work evolve in a catwalk context and welcome him to our line-up.”
Wrighton’s craft-like aesthetic, which often features headpieces and masks made out of found objects, might ring some bells: you’ll likely recognise some of his looks from images featuring gun-toting models, as shot by Kristin-Lee Moolman and styled by Ib Kamara. While Wrighton will make his fashion week debut with the upcoming collection, Knowles will be presenting her third and final one under Fashion East. Stay tuned for more following the show.
