We’re now in the final days of a month of SS19 womenswear shows, but there is still so much fashion to come – it didn’t all end with Hedi Slimane’s hotly anticiapted Celine debut (more on that here). Today, design veteran Vivienne Westwood’s Andreas Kronthaler for Vivienne Westwood line presented its latest collection.
As always, it was a production. Upon entering the show space, guests were transported to a paper wonderland of sorts – courtesy of set designer Gary Card and his team who continued building throughout the duration of the show. With the FROW featuring RuPaul’s Drag Race queens Violet Chachki and Milk, as well as Dame Viv herself, the show began.
In addition to the regular sashaying models, the show also included skateboarding lads and electric scooter-riding muscle men, because why not. The official show notes say the collection took inspiration from skate girls of Kabul photographed by Jessica Fulford-Dobson, mixed with auction catalogues and the furnishings of the Ritz Paris. There was also a list of instructions on how to get ready Westwood-style.
Elsewhere in the show, a model wore an upside-down chair as a hat. You know, for when your head has done overthinking and is ready to put its feet up. Another had multiple bags slung around her body; emotional baggage, we’ve all got it.
