Your first look at Kris Van Assche’s new Berluti designs

Ahead of his debut next January, the Belgian designer has released a teaser campaign shot by Jamie Hawkesworth

The SS19 menswear shows are well underway now, with today the last day of Milan and Paris starting tomorrow. But one designer you won’t be seeing in Paris this season is Kris Van Assche.

After the news was released that the Belgian designer would be leaving Dior Homme after eleven years and moving to Berluti, it was announced Van Assche wouldn’t be showing his debut collection until January 2019 at the AW19 shows. To tease at what you can expect then, today the designer released the first campaign under his creative direction.

Shot by Jamie Hawkesworth, the trio of black-and-white images show three models wearing nothing except a pair of classic Berluti ‘Alessandro’ Oxfords tied around their necks or slung over their shoulders. “For this first campaign, I wanted to create an image rooted in the maison’s origins and emboss it with my vision,” Van Assche explains in a statement.

The designer also enlisted M/M Paris to redesign the house’s logo, inspired by a carving in a shoe tree from 1895 – the year founder Alessandro Berluti became a shoemaker. Little else has been revealed about what we can expect from Van Assche’s first collection, so you’ll just have to wait and see what January brings.
