Here’s how Hedi Slimane could spend his $11.5m lawsuit winnings

Pour it up!

Hedi Slimane is having a great year. In January it was announced that he would be replacing Phoebe Philo at Céline as the Parisian house’s new artistic, creative, and image director; he will present his debut in September. Excited!

Yesterday, the designer won a lawsuit against luxury group Kering, with a French court declaring he had been underpaid for his last year as creative director at Saint Laurent. The winnings? A casual $11.5 million. Cash money, honey.

To help him decide what to do with it, we thought we could give the designer some advice on the best ways to pour it up. How better to live your life than to vicariously spend somebody else’s money? If Slimane wants to tip for the tips, we won’t complain.

We had to guesstimate because Love’s website sadly doesn’t specify but Slimane would definitely be interested in a private concert from the singer. Not only was his grunge princess aesthetic at Saint Laurent basically an homage to Love, she also starred as one of the faces of the Saint Laurent Music Project. Sure, he would probably get mates rates if he ever wanted a private concert but with his new payout he could afford to pay the full $100k we reckon it would cost.

You probably know already but the designer is a huge fan of David Bowie. He even wrote a tribute to him we published Dazed following his death in 2016. Slimane could be that tiny bit closer to his idol by purchasing a lock of his hair. Tied with a blue thread, it is 100% authentic – taken from his head by the wigmaker who helped create the hair for his Madame Tussauds waxwork. As you do. If that’s too creepy, the designer could cop one of his famous Ziggy Stardust costumes for a steal at $19k. Would pay to see him perform “Starman” wearing it.

Debuted at his final AW16 collection for Saint Laurent, you’ve probably seen the giant heart-shaped coat worn by the likes of Kendall Jenner, and, obviously, Rihanna. The only way to make more of a statement than wearing one, is to buy 741 of them. Yep, it would totally clear Slimane’s bank account, leaving enough change for him to be able to transport them all home. A wise investment if you ask us. That’s hoping they made that many.

Okay, so Slimane actually wouldn’t be able to buy the LA music venue alone and would need to draft in a couple of friends to help. The location for his Pre-Fall 2016 women’s and AW16 men’s show, he likely has some emotional attachment to the iconic LA music venue. It’s a good investment too, saving it from being (possibly) converted into luxury apartments. He could turn it into Slimane’s Saloon, giving all the young bands he hangs out with a place to perform, and be mentored by the likes of the musical icons he has shot: Marilyn Manson, Daft Punk, and Ariel Pink. Plus, where better to host his private concert with Courtney Love?

A TRIP TO SPACE – $250k-$58m

Looking to the future, maybe Slimane is interested in space travel. A little out of his budget (at around $58 million) if he wanted to travel with Elon Musk’s SpaceX programme, he could find himself a much more affordable option travelling with Virgin for $250k. Space: The Final Fashion Frontier. Where better to make his likely out-of-this-world Céline debut, than literally out of this world?
