And now, it would seem that the CFDA agrees, as it was announced yesterday that the model will receive the Fashion Icon Award at the CFDA Awards ceremony in June. Campbell was scouted in London’s Covent Garden in 1985 and made her modelling debut as part of Yves Saint Laurent’s SS88 show, before going on to become one of the founding supermodels alongside Cindy, Linda, Helena et al. Having appeared on countless magazine covers and catwalks around the world, more recently Campbell accompanied longtime friend Kim Jones (and BFF Kate Moss) on his final lap around the runway at Louis Vuitton, closed Off-White's SS18 show, and was seen in a series of images alongside rumoured boyfriend Skepta that were basically too hot to handle. Following in the footsteps of Moss, Rihanna, David Bowie, Beyoncé, and last year's winner Franca Sozzani, Campbell will collect her award on June 4, and as far as we’re concerned it’s been a long time coming. As CFDA chairwoman Diane von Furstenberg put it, the model has gone from “enfant prodige to goddess of fashion: Naomi represents beauty, activism, and joie de vivre.” Elsewhere, Campbell herself said “It is truly an honour to be recognised by the CFDA with this year’s Fashion Icon Award,” in a statement released yesterday. “Being from London, my personal style has always been tremendously influenced by both the dynamic, ever-changing nature of street culture and the music scene. I grew up in this industry and I’m forever grateful to the iconic American fashion designers who have supported me and celebrated me throughout my career.” Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MORE‘Britain feels like Disneyland’ Glenn Martens on a big Brit-inspired collabGlamour and grunge: A new Dazed shoot celebrates Sisley K’s arrivalMiu Miu gets arty in Paris, plus more fashion news you missed‘He was the ultimate canvas’: Transforming Jacob Elordi into FrankensteinIn pictures: The best street style from a historic Paris Fashion WeekVivienne Westwood’s final project rejuvenates her iconic tits t-shirtIt’s official: Maria Grazia Chiuri is taking over FendiIn pictures: The wildest street style moments at London Fashion WeekJoshua Ewusie was the breakout star of London Fashion WeekTrashy Clothing’s SS26 collection is lifting fashion’s veil of glamourA cult Chicago painter inspired Kiko Kostadinov’s latest showCrack is back at McQueen!
