This season was no different with large groups taking to the streets with billboards of skinned animals shouting for brands to stop using fur in fashion. Some attendees were seen turning their fur coats inside out to avoid the wrath of the protestors. Last night, the chaos even spilled on to the runway, with one protestor hijacking Mary Katrantzou’s AW18 show. Midway through the show she lept on to the runway in front of one of the models, shouting “shame on you for supporting this.” Shortly after she was escorted off the premises. While there are likely designers who do use fur showing at fashion week, Katrantzou was not one of them and actually only used faux fur in the collection. Similarly, at NYFW, Marc Jacobs found himself under scrutiny from protestors who crowded outside his recent show. “This and all the other looks in the show used FAKE fur,” he said on Instagram earlier this morning. “There was NO real fur at all in this collection or show.” There was an anti-fur protestor @MaryKatrantzoupic.twitter.com/r0GL4dMZpO— Diana Tsui (@chupsterette) February 18, 2018Escape the algorithm!
