Watch Demna Gvasalia’s Balenciaga debut go back to school

In the wake of the house’s SS17 show, see Demna Gvasalia’s debut womenswear collection captured in this exclusive film for Dazed, shot by Sean & Seng and styled by Robbie Spencer

Tapping into 80s androgyny and teenage ennui, photographers Seng & Seng set Balenciaga’s AW16 collection against the backdrop of an empty school in this exclusive Julien Pujol-shot film. Styled by Dazed creative director Robbie Spencer, the short was created alongside an editorial from the autumn 2016 issue of the magazine, entitled ‘Do you speak Balenciaga?’. The architectural tailoring adopted by the French heritage house since Demna Gvasalia took the helm is reflected in the gutted comp school setting – all corners and edges as austere as the models’ military flattops. Tattooed hands are a reminder of boredom-induced doodles, while the ties and blazers much bemoaned by teenagers feature throughout. Watch it above, and head here to see the full shoot.
