He’s designed a couple of sell-out capsule collections in collaboration with Stüssy, graduated from Central Saint Martins’ prestigious MA Fashion programme, won NEWGEN sponsorship and staged his first London Collections: Men show. In fact, he’s done all this in just over a year. Tomorrow sees the launch of his AW16 00012016 collection at Dover Street Market London, which is a pretty big deal for a young designer. “DSM have been incredibly supportive,” he tells us. “They picked me on the basis of my MA collection samples and trusted me to deliver. It was a challenge to do this while I was working my SS17 collection, but I feel really confident about the quality of the products and what we have achieved.” “My AW16 pieces are essentially extracted from my MA collection, just with more developed product values – better fit, higher quality fabrics and finishings,” he goes on to say. Photographed here by his friend and collaborator T-Bone Fletcher, the collection was inspired by contemporary workwear and comprises of hoodies, work jackets and trousers, and one crisp white shirt. Kostadinov is obsessed with cut, and the unique and slightly off-kilter silhouette he renders his garments in is evident here. Yes his clothes are simple, but there’s a clever sort of complexity to them too.
