In November, Beyoncé and Topshop owner Philip Green announced their plans to launch a clothing line – not a collaborative collection, but a brand in its own right. Now four months later, this brand, which she has since named ‘Ivy Park’, has arrived.
“Sir Philip has created some amazing collaborations but I wanted a partnership and a stand-alone brand,” she said in a statement, explaining more about the label. Launching on April 14, 2016, Ivy Park’s debut collection will be available from Topshop and a selection of other stores including Net-a-Porter and Selfridges.
“When I’m working and rehearsing I live in my workout clothes but I didn’t feel there was an athletic brand that spoke to me,” she went on to say. “My goal with Ivy Park is to push the boundaries of athletic wear and to support and inspire women who understand that beauty is more than your physical appearance. True beauty is in the health of our minds, hearts and bodies. I know that when I feel physically strong, I am mentally strong and I wanted to create a brand that made other women feel the same way.”
As yet, only two images of this collection have been released – both depict Beyoncé herself, modelling a black leotard emblazoned with the words ‘Ivy Park’ in bold, white letters. However, a video (watch below) has also been released which features shots of the star working out in the collection and clips of home movies from her childhood.
“I would wake up in the morning and my dad would come knocking on my door, telling me it's time to go running,” she says, speaking on the voiceover. “I remember wanting to stop, but I would push myself to keep going. It taught me discipline, and I would think about my dreams. I would think about the sacrifices my parent made for me. I would think about my little sister, and how I was her hero.”
A businesswoman as well as a singer, Beyoncé currently has a net worth of over $450 million (£313 million) making her one of America’s top 50 richest self-made women. Naturally, we expect this latest venture to be a success – like everything else she sets her hand to.
