J.W. Anderson’s shows are always a visual feast. Impossible to predict, the designer gives us something new every season; something which blurs gender, mixes decades, explores the ugly and reinvents the beautiful. This season was no exception. He took us on a journey or, as he put it, “an odyssey oscillating between galactic Olympics and empowered femininity.” And what did this translate to? Sculptural silhouettes, gigot sleeves, puffed shoulders, frilled trimmings, ribbed knits and Keith Haring-esque squiggles; all rendered with Anderson’s masterful and highly futuristic finesse. This series of images captures the run-up to the designer’s SS16 show, from the final preparations at the studio to model castings and fittings.
