Stand out pieces: The grey coats – perfect for battling the chilly minus 10 winds felt right now in the city – were encrusted with sequins on one sleeve only. In a break from New York’s default black uniform, masculine Crombie coats and polo necks were rendered in contrasting shades of vermillion red and turquoise. New York, New York: On an LCD screen which backgrounded the runway, tweet sentiments of what New York meant to the designers appeared – enlarged and projected for all to see. “New York is where I can get a dirty water hot dog in my highest heels and not be judged”; “New York is grime and glamour, glitter and guts.” Clichés aplenty, then – but these allusions to contrasts played out in the collection, as coat lapels were bedazzled and black ties embroidered with rhinestones were attached to white shirts, like a badge of honour.
