Ribbons and laces and sweet pretty faces – is that what Meadham Kirchhoff’s dreams are made of? On the surface maybe, but beneath the delicate frills and generous dosage of glitter awaits a darker meaning. Like the preference for kitsch bordering on an obsession, and the good little church girls gone bad for their SS14 collection, sweet pretty faces framed by flame-haired curls.
When we asked Edward Meadham and Benjamin Kirchhoff to share with us their exclusive AW14 studio playlist, they returned with a tailored playlist each – the varying tastes of a design duo clearly defined. Like their collections, the sweet is cut through with the knife of subtly twisted concepts. For Edward Meadham, Gladys Knight’s soulful and contemplative “Help Me Make It Through The Night” is ripped up by the screech of London Riot Grrrl band Huggy Bear and their track “February 14” (sure to tear up the first day of LFW, which kicks off on Valentine’s Day.) Benjamin Kirchhoff, on the other hand, seems a little more indulgent on the guilty pleasures…
Listen to Meadham Kirchhoff’s exclusive playlists below. Meadham Kirchhoff AW14 shows at London Fashion Week on Tuesday 18th February, 4.30pm.
