After unpacking all my bags after a year of travel, l discovered that I had collected a whole pile of pattern-printed pants. Not very strange, being the textile student that I am, but its not just printed clothes that keep my mind busy. Looking at the photos I take during my travel, patterns, structures and prints are frequently the subject of my street snapshots. Trying to recognise structure and unexpected harmony within the world around me has been the most interesting thing for me to photograph, always travelling alone. But it's not just loneliness that had driven me to take these. Patterns take a big part in daily life, trying to bring structure to all the chaos this job brings and find harmony between work and time off, using planning as a tool. Patterns have become a big part in my daily life."Marte Mei van Haaster Photography Jim GoldbergStyling Katie ShillingfordHair Christian Eberhard at Julian WatsonMake-Up Stephanie Kunz at Calliste ParisPhotographic Assistants Lola Reboud, Stan Rey-GrangeStyling Assistants Nell Kalonji, Charlotte CargnelloCasting by Noah Shelley for AM CastingAll other photographs Marte Mei van Haaster Read more from our Summer Takeover HERE Expand your creative community and connect with 15,000 creatives from around the world.READ MOREFrom Lana to Gaga: August Barron curate their ultimate music video nightInside the world of August Barron, fashion’s disruptive design duo Jean Paul GaultierJean Paul Gaultier’s iconic Le Male is the gift that keeps on givingIn pictures: Shalom Harlow’s most iconic catwalk momentsSilver Arrows: Fusing fashion with film noirSo you want to get your hands on Leigh Bowery’s merkin?‘Westwood and Kawakubo are provocateurs’: Inside their powerful new exhibitA look back on Loli Bahia’s best fashion moments Sunrise Angel: Loli Bahia steps out of the shadowsIrish designer Robyn Lynch is riding the ‘green wave’ her own wayDario Vitale has left Versace after 8 monthsThe 2025 Christmas archetype gift guide
