Louise Amstrup S/S12

The Danish designer looked towards a young Jodie Foster in Taxi Driver, roaming the streets of New York, for inspiration

The tensile strength of Louise Amstrup's muse forms the foundation of her latest S/S12 collection set amidst the backdrop of a sweltering New York skyline. Visions of Jodie Foster, resplendent in the youthful energy and nonchalant free-spiritedness of her star-making character in Taxi Driver are shot through every fibre of Amstrup's offering.

This seventies silhouette typified itself through flared silk trousers and shirts etched in collaged snapshots of her beloved Big Apple city scape. Not the only designer to touch upon the interplay of sexes, Amstrup presented A-line bouchlé outerwear complete with suede raglan sleeves and there was even a blink of a cropped bouclé pant on display. Joining her on the catwalk was a veritable feast of accessories including the lust-worthy powder-covered brass spur pendants, made for Amstrup by Hannah Martin. These, plus the deft way in which draping accenuated the silhouette so masterfully carried off, perfectly complemented the fruit bowl colour selection of bright orange, sandy peach and dusty lilac.

Born in Denmark, graduated from Düsseldorf’s Akademie Mode and Design and now based in London, Amstrup went on to work for Alexander McQueen before winning the coveted On/Off Visionary Award last year. Her work has ensured she is a stalwart among her fan's closets, and if this latest offering is anything to go by, that is hardly set to change.
