The image has prompted an outpouring of praise on social media from fans. “Elliot, you look so happy and amazing!!” wrote one commenter on Instagram. “Looking awesome and clearly more comfortable in your skin,” said another user. A third commenter wrote: “That feeling you get when you finally see yourself staring back at you.” Page’s friends and co-stars also showed their support in the comments. “Okay hunni,” wrote Broad City creator Ilana Glazer. “Brooo,” wrote 13 Reasons Why actor Tommy Dorfman. Julianne Moore, Page’s co-star from 2015’s Freeheld, commented: “Omg!!”. Meanwhile, Willow Smith simply wrote: “Hunk.com”. Shortly after undergoing top surgery in April, Page opened up about the experience in an interview with Oprah. “It’s being able to touch my chest and feel comfortable in my body – for probably the first time,” he said, stating that the little things – like wearing a towel around his waist or touching his chest – bring him the most joy. “This is incredibly new. I feel like I haven’t gotten to be myself since I was 10 years old,” he added. “It is such a freeing experience... I want people to know that not only has it been life-changing for me, I do believe it’s been life-saving and it’s the case for so many people because there is such an attack on trans healthcare right now, when already there’s such (a) lack of access.” Last December, shortly after coming out as trans, Page spoke to TIME about his privilege as a white, trans celebrity. “My privilege has allowed me to have resources to get through and to be where I am today,” he said. “Of course I want to use that privilege and platform to help in the ways I can.” In his original statement on Instagram, Page wrote: “I’ve been endlessly inspired by so many in the trans community. Thank you for your courage, your generosity and ceaselessly working to make this world a more inclusive and compassionate place.” Check out Page’s joyous selfie above. Escape the algorithm!
