Earlier this year, Billie Eilish said sayonara to her trademark slime green roots and revealed a new platinum blonde bombshell look to mark a new musical era and a more grown-up phase of her career. With its voluminous shaggy layered style, long curtained fringe, and peroxide blonde shade, the cut immediately drew comparisons to Marilyn Monroe, which was fitting when Eilish appeared in a pin-up-inspired cover shoot for British Vogue a few weeks later. 

Now, the singer has a new hair role model: her mother. Yesterday (August 24), Eilish posted images of her latest haircut – a shorter, choppier bob that reaches just below her chin – on Instagram as well as throwback photos of her mum Maggie Baird who inspired the look. “Like my mama,” she captioned a black and white picture of a young Baird sporting a similar blonde bob with bangs. Obviously very happy with her new look, Eilish captioned another video of herself “I love it”. 

While most fans have been loving their idol’s new style era, Eilish did recently respond to someone who said during a fan Q&A that they were “so fucking tired” of her “plain boring outfits” and asked “what happened to you?” Tackling the question with her trademark deadpan humour, Eilish replied with a photo of herself wearing an oversized shirt and short combo, along with the caption “What, you want this again” plus the skull emoji.

The pop star has previously explained the reasoning behind her signature oversized look on several occasions, including in a 2020 cover interview with Dazed. “The only reason I did it was ’cos I hated my body,” she said at the time.
