A small, Black-owned beauty brand has handed the billionaire a cease-and-desist order over the trademarking of a new name for her upcoming skincare and beauty line. Earlier this year, Kim’s (incredibly named) Kimsaprincess corporation filed trademark applications for the names SKKN and SKKN BY KIM, following the success of her beauty and shapewear brands, KKW Beauty and Skims (which was announced as the official underwear of team America for the Tokyo Olympics). Established in 2018 by 28-year-old Cydnie Lusnford, SKKN+ is a business that offers facials, chemical peels, waxing, and more from its Brooklyn salon. “I have painstakingly built my successful small business with my own sweat equity, hard work, and research,” Lunsford said in a press release as reported by Us Weekly. “It’s clear that I established my brand first. As a young black woman, my mission with SKKN+ is to provide quality skincare and curated full body experiences to enhance each client’s self-care regimen.” Meanwhile, Kardashian’s lawyer Michael G. Rhodes told TMZ: “We certainly appreciate and support small businesses and our hat is off to Ms. Lunsford. But the question at hand is one of trademark law and we’ve not done anything deserving of legal action by her. We are disappointed that she has chosen to run to the media knowing that we were scheduling a call for tomorrow, requested by her attorney. So while disagreeing with the letter, we’re hopeful that we can smooth things over once both sides speak.” Earlier this month it was revealed that Kim would be temporarily shutting down KKW Beauty, with fans speculating that the reason for this was her dropping the ‘W’ as a result of her divorce from Kanye West. However, Kim later refuted that claim, saying that the rebrand had been on the cards for some time. Escape the algorithm!
