The magazine, founded by hairstylist Michael Harding and stylist Hannah Elwell, approaches beauty through a subcultural lens and in its celebrated first issue told stories ranging from London’s LGBTQ+ skate scene to 70s portraits of Russian people during the Cold War. Its second issue is launching this month and to mark the occasion, a series of limited edition prints have been made available to purchase. “We had such a positive response to some of the new issue images we posted on social that we thought if we made available a run of limited editions to buy we could raise money for charities that we felt were really important to support even more during these times,” says editor-in-chief Harding. “The feedback from the contributors was great as they were all down for the cause and really excited. Some of the photographers wanted to target specific charities so the work they donated reflected that.” The sale includes ten striking images from contributors including Douglas Irvine, Jordan Hemingway, and Gary Gill, and all proceeds will be split between three charities: Children Of Peace, an organisation dedicated to building trust and reconciliation between Israeli and Palestinian children; Oxygen for India, which delivers medical oxygen amid the country’s ongoing Covid crisis; and Young Minds, a UK-based charity empowering young people to look after their mental health. A portion of proceeds from Altered States’ second issue will also be split between these three charities. Buy your print from the Altered States Print Sale here. Each print is sized 10 x 12 inches and is priced at £100.
