Water, lip gloss and gumThe anti-pop princess talks Alysa Liu, her holy grail beauty products and more in our quick-fire chatShareLink copied ✔️March 11, 2026March 11, 2026Text Tiarna Audrey Hobert has quickly become the pop scene’s most chalant forerunner, with breezy, peppy lyrics and an anti-popstar demeanour. As she tours her debut album Who’s the Clown, she takes to the stage in a comically oversized beige trench coat, thrashing her strawberry-blonde hair to a pit of fans screaming along as if they’re in their own bedrooms. It’s a less polished take on stardom that runs throughout her discography and pop persona, as she also offers a chaotic, messier vision of what pop-girl beauty can also look like. “I once read that some people’s beauty can’t be captured,” sings the star on her track “Thirst Trap”. The lyric was inspired by a quote Hobert found online, suggesting that beauty is best experienced in motion. Below, we caught up with the quirked-up alt-pop star ahead of her show to talk about her “low-effort chic” beauty aesthetic, her new ILIA edit, and more. What are you up to at the moment? Audrey Hobert: Sitting in my hotel in Amsterdam, watching interviews of Alysa Liu. What’s your holy grail beauty product right now? Audrey Hobert: Water, not to be annoying. What’s a beauty routine you’ll always stick to? Audrey Hobert: My nighttime skin care – I’m convinced it’ll all be for nothing if I miss a night. Describe your beauty aesthetic in three words. Audrey Hobert: Low effort chic. Who is your beauty icon or favourite look of all time? Why? Audrey Hobert: My beauty icon is always a random waitress in a random restaurant. What’s your earliest beauty-related memory? Audrey Hobert: Wishing I didn’t have freckles (love them now). What’s the best advice you’ve received? Audrey Hobert: To be grateful. What’s your favourite city to go out in? Audrey Hobert: NYC. What’s your go-to way to relax? Audrey Hobert: Eating and watching a movie. Do you have any pre-show rituals? Audrey Hobert: Just fasten my eight-foot-long trench and take a deep breath. What are three things that are always in your bag? Audrey Hobert: ILIA Overglaze lip gloss, gum, wallet. What’s a track you have on repeat right now? Audrey Hobert: Nothing on repeat right now, but I sing “Stateside” in my head a lot. Do you have any analogue hobbies? Audrey Hobert: Crosswords, but it’s on my phone, so... What’s the last thing you wrote in your notes app? Audrey Hobert: “Amsterdam Triumph has underwear”. What are you looking forward to in 2026? Audrey Hobert: Doing whatever the hell I want. Escape the algorithm! Get The DropEmail address SIGN UP Get must-see stories direct to your inbox every weekday. Privacy policy Thank you.
