Cardi B has announced that she is launching her own range of hair care products saying that people need to “educate” themselves about Afro-Latina hair. The rapper, actress, and political pundit shared the news on her Instagram, writing “this year I will be coming out with a hairline that I been working on at home for my hair and my daughters.”
She continued: “I think is time for people to educate themselves on nationality, race and ethnicity. Being Hispanic/Latina don’t make your hair long, don’t make your skin light or don’t make your face features slim.” The announcement follows a discussion Cardi has been having on social media about the definitions and nuances of the terms “Hispanic”, “Latina”, and “Afro-Latina” stemming from the confusion and offensive comments she received on a video of her natural hair.
“I think I’m going to a video of different Hispanic people or Latin people or w.e terms is the correct way to say it now a days cause people be thinking every Hispanic is Mexican or something & must have the same hair texture, color and features,” she wrote in one of her tweets about the subject. In other tweets she said the school system in the US has failed to educate people on subjects including the colonisation of the Dominican Republic.
The haircare line comes after Cardi shared a homemade hair mask last year which she said was the secret to growing her hair. The DIY mask, which contained avocado, two eggs, a heaping spoon of mayonnaise, and black castor oil, proved to be a hit with fans. In response to a follower asking if the “game-changer” would be included in the new hair range, Cardi said she has been adding other formulas to the mask. “I don’t care much for curl pattern cause my hair don’t really curl I usually braided so I focus more on growth for mine. For my daughter I focus on growth & moisturizing her curls so I been mixing ingredients for her,” she explained.
While this haircare range appears to be coming out soon, the make-up line Cardi teased in 2019 has yet to materialise.
