Other than a mysterious futuristic image created by Jesse Kanda and a promised release date of October 1, we didn’t really know what to expect from the brand, until now. Providing more details, the pair explained their approach to ideating the products, which was two years in the making. “I am very happy for the possibilities of self-expression through the collection – of its possibilities overall. It’s about how you combine it, however little or however much,” explains Gorham. “It was about how to create an open system without intimidation. We wanted much of the approach to the make-up – both wearing and making – to be instinctive.” The first offering of products includes more classic beauty items like mascara, lip balm, eyeliner, and lipstick as well as the Colour Stick – a creamy, lightweight product that can be worn in many ways, on the eyes, lips, cheeks, wherever you choose. “Neither Ben or I wanted makeup that was too conformist or precious (and) the Colour Stick is crucial to this,” says Ffrench. “We wanted to create a universal product that could be worn in many ways. I do not want to tell people how to wear cosmetics, but to inspire them.” Following the initial launch, Byredo Beauty will also drop a 5 Colour Eyeshadow in November, with each compact comprising of five pressed powders in 3 different finishes: matte, metallic, and ultra-glitter. Intent on pushing the boundaries of creativity, we can’t wait to see what else Byredo Makeup comes up with. Escape the algorithm!
