You’re wearing a Juicy Couture tracksuit and Uggs. Mean Girls has just come out, Stephen is trying to decide between LC and Kristin, Britney Spears’ “Toxic” is playing on the radio, and you’ve just applied a fifth layer of your Juicy Tube lip gloss. If you’re feeling nostalgic for those simpler times, we have some great news – the OG lip gloss in a tube, Lancôme’s Juicy Tubes, is back. To celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iconic lip gloss, Lancôme is bringing them back into our lives. Juicy Tubes are relaunching with the original 10 shades – including the OG clear gloss – plus a further 10 limited edition colours that have been added to the line-up. ‘Birthday Confetti’ is one of these new shades, which comes in star-studded holographic packaging, and there’s creamier concoctions like “Fig Hit” or a striking hot pink in “Miracle”. First launched in 2000, at the height of its popularity, it was reported that 20 Juicy Tubes were sold every minute in the US. Throughout the decade, the iconic lip gloss remained an essential item and status symbol for school girls and Beverly Hills celebrities everywhere, before the range was discontinued in 2018 after the make-up industry had turned away from the glossy lip to fully embrace the matte liquid lip. In recent times though, we’ve seen a move back towards the glossy lip, so Lancome’s venture feels perfectly timed. Ariana Grande wore some highly lacquered lips for her Regina George cosplay in the “thank you, next” video, and brands from Glossier, to Fenty, and Charlotte Tilbury have all released their own – maybe more grown-up – version of the lip gloss. The Juicy Tubes will be available on the Lancome site and Sephora, exclusively. Bring on the nostalgia, and long live Y2K! Escape the algorithm!
