In lockdown, we’ve seen hair trends come and go as everyone seems to be taking this time to experiment with their hair and find joy where they can. Pink was the first big popular colour, with everyone from Elle Fanning to Buffy AKA Sarah Michelle Gellar making the change. Then orange emerged as the hot new hue with Kristen Stewart rocking a bright, almost neon pumpkin orange while Dua Lipa opted for a slightly more subdued, pastel peach.
And now an even more extreme dye job is making the rounds and it’s perfect for all those indecisive people who just can’t make their mind up between two different colours. The solution? Do both! Over the weekend, actress Ruby Rose debuted a pink and blue dye job, having shaved off all her hair a few weeks prior – apart from one lone mini braid, a classic Alternative Lifestyle Haircut. Posting the new look on Instagram, Rose wrote: “What can I say!? Sometimes you just need to feel blue and other times you need pink to lighten your day.”
But she’s not the only one sporting the two-toned look. Georgia May Jagger showed off a turquoise-lilac style while in isolation, as did Pixie Geldof who deviated slightly from the half-and-half looks favoured by the others with her pink hair with pale green mallen streaks at the front of her hair framing her face. She called it watermelon hair.
Here we round up some of the best looks of the trend. And if you are thinking of doing it yourself, the trick to stopping the colours bleeding into each other is to rinse with cold water. Or if it is a different change you are after, let us help guide you through it. Whether you are bleaching it, cutting your own fringe or shaving it all off. No access to hair dye? No problem! Just head to your cupboard for the Kool-Aid.
