Around one in 18,000 globally have Albinism – yet when it comes to beauty products that cater to their specific needs, there is a distinct lack of options (besides Fenty, duh).

Enter Ivoree Beauty, a new brand created by influencer Jennifer Renée. First starting out as a make-up artist a decade ago, Jennifer began her beauty journey by giving tips to a small community of people with albinism all around the world on a Facebook group called Albinism Beauty Chat.

“We have 1000-plus members who are all women with Albinism or a parent with a child who has Albinism. Finding beauty products that match our skin tones, hair colours, etc is the main thing that is discussed,” she shares. “One thing that we couldn’t find easily though were false lashes that match our hair. So, I decided I would put together a collection.”

The foundations of the brand launched with two different styles of false lashes in Blondee (blonde) and Icee (white) that will more closely match those with albinism. Beyond delivering a product that has never been created before, Jennifer wants to also increase representation for those with albinism too. “We don’t see Albinism represented around us in a normalised way,” she says. “It’s usually depicted with evil, magical, albino characters in films, but now there are fashion models with Albinism, it can be seen as beautiful. We still want to have the same selection of products in our shades and see more inclusion in marketing.”

She goes on to talk about some of the difficulties she has faced growing up with Albinism: “A lot of people assume Albinism is this stereotypical look of white hair and red eyes, I’ve been accused of lying about having Albinism before.” Jennifer unsurprisingly hasn’t let any haters or the fact that she’s legally blind from stopping her pursuing her creative dreams. “My favourite part of what I do is connecting with women with Albinism around the world and hearing their stories,” she says. “Many of them have told me that seeing my content has helped them to feel confident.”

After starting with the foundations of the brand, Jennifer wants to continue growing Ivoree Beauty to help cater for more people with albinism. “It has grown way beyond my initial expectations, I was really expecting it to be just for my circle of friends with Albinism to enjoy,” she explains. “I plan to include more colour options that are difficult for people to find. People with blonde, brown, and red hair and people with vitiligo who have lost pigmentation in their lashes have asked for lashes to match their hair too.”
