Catching eyes and followers for their terminally online charisma, alt-girl hair, and razor-sharp skating, Liu has inspired women, both young and old, to rediscover joy in their work, challenge pressures to conform to beauty standards and be outspoken in their beliefs. She has also had a big influence on how we want to look. Since her big gold medal win, a growing number of people are heading to the hair salon to get that trademark raccoon tail hair for themselves. Bleach play was already a trend, with stars like Rosalía experimenting with halo hair and ghost roots, and now, thanks to Liu its only set to cement itself further. Alongside the turn towards maximalist, playful make-up, it seems like beauty is finally getting fun again. It’s not just Liu’s hair that people are being influenced by. On her way to the podium, she doubled back mid-live broadcast with a quick, “Wait, my lipstick!” before flashing the crowd a glossy, smile – complete with that signature smiley lip piercing. It had TikTok’s beauty sleuths running to their search bars in an attempt to find the holy grail product. It didn’t take long until Rare Beauty’s Soft Pinch Tinted Lip Oil Stain was awarded its own flowers. Later confirmed by Liu herself in an interview, where she revealed the shade was Delight, a rosy brown hue. Aside from sweeping Olympic beauty looks this month, elsewhere brands were dropping and restocking across make-up, vibrators and with a particular focus on scents for the season ahead. With Le Labo, Creed and Escentric Molecules all dropping new notes. Read on to see more of the best beauty drops from this month. LE LABO VIOLETTE 30 While many set their focus on roses for the month of love, perfume powerhouse Le Labo took the off-beaten track, which seemingly led them to a meadow full of violets, a rare variety of white violet to be exact. Their latest scent, Violette, joins the league of cult favourites. Get ready to smell it on your morning commute, coffee-shop run or just about everywhere. Buy it here. The skin-mimicking product is available in three shades, one including an bright icy blue. The product is said to be designed to look lived-in and almost slept in. That works for us! Buy it here. Courtesy of Fara Homidi PLEASING DOUBLE-SIDED VIBRATOR (RESTOCKED) Harry Styles is here to please you (again). While the Pleasing double-sided vibrator and a premium silicone lube launched back in July, customers were happy to hear of its restock this month. Created in collaboration with sex educator and industry advocate Zoe Ligon, the line is designed to centre joy and pleasure – an open invitation from Styles to explore whatever makes you feel good. The shades play on that tension: washed lilacs and watery greens sit beside smoky blues and pale pinks, before melting into molten orange, volcanic rose and burnished mineral tones. There’s definitely a smouldering, smoky-eye joke in here somewhere – but we’ll leave that with you. Buy it here. While we battle through the winter slog, the scent keeps us dreaming of warmer days with notes of timur berry, bergamot and pink pepper, all anchored by a base of vetiver. It’s a scent reminiscent of summer garden parties (and the being outside without checking the weather app every five minutes), and has already proved a HUGE hit with the brother of a Dazed team member. For the campaign, Madonna recorded a cover of “La Bambola” by Patty Pravo, an Italian artist who is a symbol of freedom and emancipation. “I’ve always loved the song,” Madonna said. “I remember hearing it often as a child.
