Netflix has released the first images from its upcoming series centring around the life of Madam C.J. Walker, the black haircare pioneer and business mogul who became America’s first female self-made millionaire.

The daughter of former slaves, Walker was the first of her siblings born into freedom, just a few years after the Emancipation Proclamation was signed abolishing slavery. In 1910, Walker founded her haircare business Madame C. J. Walker Manufacturing Company which went on to find incredible success during a time of Jim Crow segregation and when women were still fighting for the vote.

Inspired by the biography, On Her Own Ground: The Life and Times of Madam C. J. Walker by Walker’s great-great-granddaughter A’Lelia Bundles, the four-part series will star Octavia Spencer as the iconic figure, Blair Underwood as her husband C.J. Walker, and Tiffany Haddish as her daughter Lelia.

The series will premiere on March 20 on Netflix.
