Patrick Starr and Desi Perkins are no strangers to a make-up tutorial. On Monday, however, the two beauty YouTubers showed off their make-up skills in a more unusual way.
In promotion of Apple’s new Memoji updates announced at the Apple's Worldwide Developer Conference, Starr and Desi featured in a tutorial as Memoji versions of themselves, walking the audience through all the ways to customize their new Memoji beauty looks. Memojis are Bitmoji’s cooler younger sibling - made by Apple, but heavily inspired by Snapchat’s 3D avatars. Released in 2018, the first of Apple’s 3D emoji spinoff, Memoji gives users the ability to cartoon-ize your face in the style of existing emojis.
And now, thanks to the new iOS 13 update, you can accessorize your Memoji with make-up, piercings, teeth, hairstyle, grills, earrings, hats, glasses, and airpods. Like Animoji (the animal heads… you know the ones), this update will only be available to those with the iPhone X.
“Today we are going to show you how to make a cute, flirty, Memoji look,” announces Starr in the tutorial, clad in his signature black headscarf and blue lipstick and eyeshadow matching his blue hair.
“Starting with eyeshadow. This is my favourite eyeshadow right now… this is called Apple Fuchsia No.6. And it comes in this really cute little toolbar” adds Desi, complete with a blonde blowout and dark matte lip.
Reflecting our creativity through beauty transcends all platforms of business. The update goes to show that expression of self in tech is as relevant as any software changes, for it creates a sense of individualism when participating with technology.
